The term "hyperface" comes from geometry and refers to a surface of a n-dimensional square. Computer science adopted the term to provide a short form for a "Hypermedial User Interface", which can be thought of as a toolkit system for developing user interfaces. Though the term may have originated in the sciences, it has other connotations in today's environment of Web 2.0 and collaborative online tools. Of course the big name that comes to mind is Facebook: where (it is assumed) the reference to "face" is interpreted to mean photos of human faces, or at least the visual component of personhood which contributes to the whole online personality. But what about the common, multi-cultural use of the term "face" to refer to one's reputation in a community. As in "saving face" or "losing face". (This meaning of the term has particular significance in Chinese society.) In this context, a "hyper face" could refer to the social personality extended into the web sphere: As "hyper" refers to an extension beyond the commonly available dimensions, and "hypertext" refers to writing that escapes a strictly linear structure, a hyperface is an extension of the social persona into the information - stupor highway.

Where facebook fails:

"The dumbest buy the mostest" - The Dead Kennedys

There are probably dozens of companies and starving web developers desperately trying to churn out a better facebook than facebook. Theoretically, this shouldn't be too hard to accomplish, given that facebook itself is a deeply flawed and frivolous application. We all know by now that market forces do not necessarily give top billing to the most deserving product: Microsoft has been successfully enforcing market dominance for their inferior operating systems for years. The real shame is that when finally the technology is ripe for true online social networking, true participative democracy, you get millions of people spending hours watching waterskiing chipmunks and chubby adolescents pretending to be Luke Skywalker. So instead of being the democratizing, empowering tool that it could be, the current de facto global online social networking application seeks to homersimpsonize the world's populations.
